You'll find it easy to settle into Antsiranana. Often referred to as Diego Suarez, or Diego for short, this pleasant harbor city is perched at the northern tip of Madagascar below the baobab-studded slopes and tsingy-capped peak of the Montagne des Français. The city boasts an interesting city center, lies close to some attractive recreational beaches, and serves as the gateway to the nearby Amber Mountain National Park.
Enjoy cool temperatures, forest wildlife (including elephants, buffaloes and leopards), and fine views of craters and mountains when you visit the Ngorongoro Highlands.
Get ready to explore one of Africa's finest wilderness destinations. South Luangwa National Park is justifiably regarded to be one of the best places in the world for close-up sightings of leopard, and it also supports impressive numbers of lion, elephant, buffalo and other safari favorites. A focal point for game drives is the Luangwa River, which supports countless hippos, some seriously impressive crocodiles, and a wealth of birds – most notably the dashing carmine bee-eaters that nest communally in the sandbanks.
You'll love the warm light and cooler temperatures as we take you out to explore on your evening game drive. This time of day is when both predators and prey are most active and it can feel as though anything could happen at any moment. This is when you'll most enjoy being on safari.
Going on an evening game drive is one of the highlights of any safari. This is when temperatures cool, the light becomes softer and the wildlife begins to get active. Not only will you be out when the light is best for taking photos, but it's also one of the best times of day for seeing the animals.
Time to head into southern Kruger, which is the most accessible part of this world-famous national park, and the most consistently rewarding in terms of overall wildlife viewing. Bounded by the Sabie River to the north and Crocodile River to the south, southern Kruger is renowned for its large herds of elephant, buffalo and impala. Other wildlife you're likely to see on any given game drive here includes giraffe, warthog, hippo, zebra, wildebeest and greater kudu. Southern Kruger is also home to high concentrations of lion and rhino, and it enjoys a higher success rate than most other national parks when it comes to leopard encounters.
An estimated 2,000 lion, 1,000 leopard, 45,000 buffalo, 20,000 elephant, several thousand white rhino and at least 500 black rhino roam the Greater Kruger ecosystem, which comprises the 19,485km² Kruger National Park and several bordering private reserves.
Put on some warm clothes and enjoy an early morning game drive. This is the perfect time to experience the wildlife and the landscapes they inhabit. The light is soft and warm – perfect for photography – and most animals are out and about, and active. If you’re not an early riser, you’ll definitely want to make an exception here.
