Welcome to Uganda and welcome to your safari! It all begins here with an introduction to your guide and with a chance for you to ask any questions. Then it's time to get out there and enjoy your safari. Because you chose Uganda, you have so much to look forward to.

Founded in 1902 by the charismatic Busoga leader Semei Kakungulu, Mbale is a large and attractive town set on the western foothills of Mt Elgon, an extinct volcano that rises to 4,321m on the border with Kenya.

Day 5

Pian-Upe Wildlife Reserve

The 2,788km² Pian-Upe Wildlife Reserve ranks as Uganda's second-largest protected area, but it remains somewhat undeveloped and it's likely you'll be the only tourists here. Inhabited by Pian and Upe pastoralists who maintain a traditional semi-nomadic lifestyle, this dry-country reserve protects Uganda's largest populations of cheetah, roan antelope and greater kudu, along with lion, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, patas monkey and more than 250 bird species.
