17 days uganda wildlife safari and mafia island tour

Named after an explosive 43m-high waterfall created where the Nile erupts through a crack in the Rift Valley escarpment, Murchison Falls National Park is also one of East Africa's most rewarding safari destinations. Here you'll find golden-maned lions stalking the plains, large herds of Rothschild's giraffe striding through palm-studded grassland, and hippos basking in the river shallows while elephants and buffaloes come to drink. A highlight of the park’s prolific aquatic birdlife is the swamp-dwelling shoebills that are regularly seen around the delta formed by the Nile as it flows into Lake Albert.
Second only to elephants when it comes to bulk among African land mammals, white rhinos are intimidating creatures, as you'll see for yourself when you track them in Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch. This admirable rhino breeding project is home to plenty of other wildlife too, but Uganda's only population of rhinos does tend to steal the show, and it is a real thrill to encounter these peaceful grass-cropping giants on foot.
Everybody's favorite pre- or post-gorilla tracking chill-out spot is Bunyonyi, a gorgeous lake hemmed in by steep cultivated slopes typical of southwestern Uganda. Relax on the beach with a cold beer, enjoy a tasty curry made with local freshwater shrimps, ramble or bird watch through the surrounding countryside, or explore the islands by boat.
Our morning activity entails tracking golden monkeys in the Virunga Mountains. Named for their striking gold and black coats, these playful bamboo-eating monkeys were once widespread in the highland forests of the Albertine Rift Valley, but are now more or less confined to this one mountain range.
Spend more time on Mafia Island, out in the Indian Ocean.
Go snorkeling with us and enjoy discovering a whole new world of wonder just below the ocean's surface. The marine life you'll see could just become one of the highlights of your trip.
Let's go diving down into the ocean to explore the marine life. It's an exciting alternative to the usual land-based activities and will introduce you to a whole new underwater world.
